Chomp! Meat-Eating Plants

Plants are nice because they only absorb the sun's light for energy, right? Nope - not always true! Read this National Geographic article on plants that "eat" at this link and answer the following questions.

1. What is the name of the place that has a new exhibit about plants?

2. What are meat eating plants called?

3. Name two types of carnivorous plants and tell how each one traps its victim.

4. Why do you think an insect can't climb out of an Asian pitcher plant?

1.The name of the place that has a new exhibit about plants is the San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers.

2.Meat eating plants are called carnivores.

3.One carnivorous plant is the venus fly trap it traps it's victims by snapping close when the insect goes inside it's trap.Another carnivorous plant is the Asian pitcher plant it traps it's vitims by letting them slide into their pitcher shape leafs to take a drink but the insects get stuck.

4.I think an insect can't climb out of an Asian pitcher plant because once they go in to take a drink it is so slippery inside they can't get a grip to climb back out.

5.Most carnivorous plants live in wet areas.

6.No, I think carnivorous plants can't trap small animals because it might be to big for them to digest.

1. The name of the place that has new exhibit about plants is the San Fransico Conservitory of Flowers.

2. Meat eating plants are called carnovors.

3. Two types of a carnovororsplants is the Venus flytrap and Pitchers. The Venus flytrap traps their pray by closing its mouth shut. The Pitcher captures its pray by making the pray get a drink of necter and they fall in.

4.I think a insect cant climb out of a pitcher because the walls are slipery and that if they get wet they cant fly or climb out of it.

5. Carnovoros plants live in wet areas.

6. I do think carnovoros plants can trap small animals because they fit and that they take a wile to digest they still it them.

2. The plants are called carnivore plants.
3. The two plants are the Venus fly trap and the Asian pitcher.The venus fly trap catches its victim by closing its mouth when it has the bug in it.The Asian pitcher has a hole in the top and the bug cralws in and cant get out.
4. I think the animal cant crawl out because it has sticky stuff iun it and it stickes its wings to its self.
5. The plants live in moist areas with not a lot of food.
6. I think they can trap small animals because they are strong plants that are sneaky.

3.the venus fly trap waits for its victem to cral up its stem then snaps its mouth shut.
and the tatian butterworth gets its victem stuck on its stickey leaves.

4.i think that it caint climb out because it squeases it to kill it.

5.i think that carnavors live in areas that dont provide food for them.

6.i dont think they can smell animals because they dont have noses.

3. Two types of carnivorous plants are the Venus Fly Trap and the Titan Butterworth. The Venus Fly Trap traps its prey and then digests it. The Titan Butterworth has fly-paper-like leaves to cach its prey.

4. I think an insect can't climb out of the Pitcher plant because there is a slipery slope they slide down.

5. They mostly live in wet areas with little good soil.

6. Yes. Some are known to eat small birds.
